"I warmly support Operation Carol. The first Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Truro Cathedral in 1880 helped shape a distinctive feature of modern British Christmas: the telling of the Nativity story through readings, carols and communal worship. Its significance extends beyond church life. It brings together music, storytelling and shared participation — central elements of Britain’s Christmas culture — and shows how the familiar traditions we inherit were once imaginative new creations. Its spread from Cornwall to communities around the world is a remarkable cultural legacy. By commemorating its 150th anniversary on the 2030 Christmas stamps, Royal Mail could celebrate both its Cornish origins and its enduring contribution to how we experience Christmas today.”
