As part of Postverk Føroya/Posta’s 50th anniversary year, the Faroe Island's very first stamps from 1976 have returned with a commemorative overprint. They have been released today at the Frimærke, Brev & Postkort 2026 exhibition in Copenhagen and will be available on the website on Monday.

Recycling the old stamps with overprints celebrating the milestone is quite a good way of celebrating the half-centenary of Faroese stamps*. It doesn't just mark 50 years of Postverk Føroya/Posta, it also pays tribute to the designs - and designers - of those very first stamps.

I am not going to review these as they are not new stamps as such, but I am very tempted to buy them. * The first Faroese stamps were actually issued in 1975 by P&T (Post- og Telegrafvæsenet), the Danish postal service. These are the first stamps produced by Postverk Føroya, the islands' independent postal service.
