This is a very interesting new issue from Romania that I liked the look of straight away.
The set is called "Curiosities of Wildlife" and it focuses on "situations in which the young of certain animals differ significantly in coloration from the adults."
Well, that is unusual! Stamps often show similar types of animals, or animals from particular areas. They don't often use differences as a theme. The animals (and their young) are the silvered langur, the king penguin, the southern cassowary and the Asian tapir.
You're not going to find any of these animals in the wild in Romania but scientific researchers at some of Romania's National Museum of Natural History were involved in developing this set of stamps.
You can buy the stamps on a first day cover which has an extra picture of a kangaroo and her joey.

Design Quality - This is quite a good design. There is not much in the background and the stamps are focused on the animals. I like how the animals' ears, heads, beaks and fingers come outside the borders. 7/10
Theme/Subject Choice - It's a very different subject. Lots of stamps show pictures of animals but I have never heard of any stamps that have focused on young animals that look different to their parents. 10/10
Historical and Cultural Relevance - These animals are not found in Romania, except in zoos and wildlife parks. 4/10
Innovation and Creativity - This is a nice modern design but nothing too exciting or innovative. 5/10
Collectability - Wildlife and nature stamps are very popular with thematic collectors and these are also a little bit different. 8/10
Personal Appeal - I really like these. I think the design is very good and the artwork is brilliant. They're great stamps that I'd like to add to my collection. 9/10
Overall score - 43/60

Nice write up, thanks for sharing.
