Serbia's latest new stamp was for World Postcard Day on 1st October. World Postcard Day was launched by Postcrossing in 2020. The idea is to encourage people to send postcards, celebrate the history of postcards and promote the joy of handwritten communication.

I am surprised more countries haven't issued stamps supporting World Postcard Day (are you reading this, Royal Mail?) but at least Serbia has got in on the act and created this fantastic stamp.

I think the designers have done exactly the right thing here because the important thing is to make World Postcard Day and Postcrossing look like fun. Pictures of postcards would be lovely but probably not likely to inspire anyone. We see a cartoon illustration of a Serbian postbox wearing a postal worker's hat. The postbox has arms and is holding postcards, which I imagine are showing famous Serbian landmarks. On the top of the stamps are the words "World Postcard Day - Postcrossing" in Serbian, and underneath that "Happy Postcrossing" in English (perhaps for more international appeal?) spelled out on postcards.

Design Quality: I really like how bright and fun this stamp is. It needs to catch people’s attention and make them want to send postcards, and I think it does that well. Using postcards to spell out “Happy Postcrossing” is a great idea, and the postbox character gives it loads of personality. It’s nice that postboxes get celebrated too! 8/10

Theme and Subject Choice: World Postcard Day is a great theme, and I think more postal administrations should release stamps for it. I haven’t found any other new stamps celebrating it in 2026, which feels like a shame. The theme isn’t specifically Serbian, but that makes sense because World Postcard Day is worldwide and Postcrossing brings people together from lots of different countries. 10/10

Historical and Cultural Relevance: Postcards can tell us a lot about different places, cultures and people’s lives. World Postcard Day helps keep that tradition going and encourages people to actually send them. I think that’s really important, especially when so much of our communication happens on a screen. 8/10

Innovation and Creativity: The design is creative, especially the smiling postbox and the postcards arranged around it. It doesn’t feel completely new or groundbreaking, but it doesn’t need to. It’s fun and welcoming, which could help younger people get interested in postcards and stamps. 6/10

Collectability: I think this will be really popular with Postcrossers! It celebrates something they enjoy, and it would be a great stamp to use on a postcard or keep in a collection. The cheerful design makes it even more appealing. 7/10

Personal Appeal: For me, this is a really good stamp celebrating something that deserves more attention. Postcrossing is a lovely way to connect with people around the world, and it should be encouraged and supported. Postcards are definitely worth celebrating, and this stamp makes sending them look fun! 8/10 Overall Score: 47/60
