The Isle of Man will be issuing their new Europa stamps on Wednesday. This is the second set of Europa stamps I have reviewed - Guernsey also issued a nice set in April on the theme "united in the love of stamps".
The £2.63 stamp is the Europa design for 2026. Isle of Man Stamps and Coins tells is that "the featured designs highlight notable Manx subjects from previous EUROPA themes, showcasing the Isle of Man’s cultural heritage, architectural landmarks and natural beauty within a wider European narrative."
This set "brings together the work of multiple artists across the decades, including the original 1976 Laxey Jug stamp and later celebrated designs such as Ballaglass Glen Cottage and Castletown. Collectors are invited to explore the evolution of Isle of Man EUROPA issues through this anniversary release, which stands as a tribute to 70 years of European postal cooperation." I think Guernsey's theme was stronger and there was much more of a sense of purpose behind them. I understand these stamps celebrate multiple artists rom different times and with different styles, but they look disconnected and the overall theme isn't obvious.
Design Quality - There is no single design style and the stamps all feel very different. Without looking closely you could easily think they were five stamps from five very different sets. 3/10
Theme / Subject Choice - The 70th anniversary of Europa is a good choice, but the Isle of Man hasn't been very adventurous in its "interpretation". 5/10
Historical and Cultural Relevance - 2026 is the 70th anniversary of the Europa programme. The artwork is all very relevant to the Isle of Man. 9/10
Innovation and Creativity - A big opportunity was missed here to do something innovative and different. Instead, it seems the designers went for the safe option. 2/10
Collectability - A lot of collectors like Europa stamps and with good reason. But are these going to inspire anyone else? 5/10
Personal Appeal - Guernsey did it so much better. 2/10 Overall score - 26/60
